What is Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are three Google metrics that measure real-user page experience: Largest Contentful Paint (loading), Interaction to Next Paint (responsiveness), and Cumulative Layout Shift (visual stability).

Google reports the metrics in Search Console and uses them as a ranking signal. The passing thresholds are an LCP of 2.5 seconds or less, an INP of 200 milliseconds or less, and a CLS of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of real visits.

Page builders and plugin-heavy WordPress sites commonly fail LCP because of large scripts and unoptimised images. Sites we build on Next.js serve optimised images and pre-rendered HTML, which is why they tend to pass without tuning.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I check my Core Web Vitals?

Google Search Console has a Core Web Vitals report, and PageSpeed Insights shows both field and lab data for any URL.

Do Core Web Vitals affect rankings?

Yes, as one of many signals. In practice the bigger effect is on conversion: slow pages lose visitors before they read anything.
